Germany’s Kissin’ Dynamite was founded in 2007, with guitar player Jim Müller, vocalist Hannes Braun, bassist Steffan Haile, drummer Andreas Schnitzer, and fellow guitarist Ande Braun. The quintet released its debut album, Steel of Swabia in 2008, and its sophomore effort, Addicted To Steel in 2010. Former Accept and current U.D.O. vocalist Udo Dirkschneider made a guest appearance on the latter album’s title track. The sleazy hard rockers released their third album, Money, Sex & Power in 2012. LazyRocker.com discussed the past, present and future with frontman Hannes Braun.
How did 5 young guys like you meet each other and start out a band with a lot of 80's influences?
We started this band when we were in school where we got to know each other. The 80´s influence came when we listened to our parents' CD's which were bands like Iron Maiden, Guns n' Roses, Mötley Crüe and AC/DC
So your parents listened to 80's rock. What other bands have influenced you the most?
Yeah you're right! Other bands are Skid Row, Bon Jovi and Accept for example.
Was "Money, Sex And Power" an easy record to make after the highly critical acclaimed "Addicted To Metal"?
Of course it was pretty difficult to make an even better record than "Addicted", because we knew the third one either makes it or breaks it, so we had reeeeeally long sessions in the studio to write songs which are even more catchy than the old ones.
How is the writing process within Kissin' Dynamite?
It´s always Jim and me who write melodies and riffs together with our producers "Elephant music". Andi, the drummer is writing the lyrics.
“Dinosaurs are still alive” is all about the great bands from the 80’s, isn’t it?
Yes, you´re right! It´s all about our heroes of the past which we honour and respect! This song is kind of a tribute to them.
"Six Feet Under" is IMO one of the coolest tracks. What can you tell us about this tune?
It is for sure our most unusual track, because it´s also possible to listen on every radio station. The song is about the death, but not a serious state of mind but a nice one. You know, maybe it is good to be dead, because nobody disturbs you anymore and you have your peace of mind. We don´t know. But we shouldn´t fear the death because it belongs to a life.
You just finished a tour where you supported Dragonforce. How did the tour go?
It was perfect. We actually thought that many of the DF fans probably will not like us, but it was entirely different. They celebrated to our music and it felt fuckin' good. I guess we made a lot of new fans.
Other young and upcoming bands like H.E.A.T. and Dynazty are also mainly inspired by the sound of the 80’s. Have you heard of those bands?
For sure, it´s getting better and better with young bands. They finally start again to sound like in the 80´s and this is cool because we experience a Hairmetal comeback!
Do you also like modern rock bands like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down or Alter Bridge for example?
I really love Nickelback! Alterbridge is also cool, but I think Myles Kennedy (which I adore) does much better with Slash.
What are the Kissin' Dynamite plans for 2013?
Writing new songs, play Europe´s biggest festivals and go on a mini tour in Japan.
Thank you for answering our burning questions! And hope to see you on the road!!
Thank you too! Have a good time and see you soon!!
