URIAH HEEP …STILL INTO THE WILD!
Don’t mention all the things that’s been said about a classic rock band. Forget the quote “they’ve got minds like Swiss cheese…full of holes.” Uriah Heep are without any doubt the indisputable evidence that a classic rock band still knows how to rock a like a hurricane.
It’s fair to say that Mick Box is the only former member who’s still holding the flag since their debut in 1970. Meanwhile Phil Lanzon (keyboards), Bernie Shaw (vocals), and Russel Gilbrook (drums) are all Heep-members for more or less than two decades. Tempus fugit…hey?! After bassist Trevor Bolder sadly passed away in may this year, youngster Dave Rimmer joined Uriah Heep as a substitute. So the band is at full speed, again.
And so they are! Joyfully and with a sense of British humor the band kicks off with their thunderous ‘Against The Odds’. Still a marvellous opener! Bernie Shaw needs a couple of liquid friends (only water…of course) to clean up his voice a bit, and after that Bernie’s getting better and better. He’s a brilliant frontman: jocular as a ladd and though as concrete steel.
Uriah Heep are indestructible in performing a state of the art rockshow. The energy, the feeling, the passion, it’s in their minds and veins. No audience can’t resist such a device. The Heep are performing selected works from their backcatalogue including some songs from their latest album ‘Into The Wild’. New songs like ‘Nail On The Head’, ‘Into The Wild’, and ‘I’m Ready’ referring to the fact that the new album has been labeled as the heaviest Heep-album to date. Russel Gilbrook must been having the time of his life. He’s slapping the drums like he has been bitten by a dog with rabies.
Mick Box (who looks increasingly like the comic character Asterix) is waving with his right hand during every solo or heavy riff. The man has every reason to do it. First of all, it’s his tradition for more than four decades. So why breaking with it? The second reason is maybe because he’s pleased by being surrounded by a couple of great musicians. The third reason could be (and I’m sure it is) that it’s a salute to heaven. A tribute to his ex-Heep mates David Byron, Gary Thain, and Trevor Bolder to show them that the Heep is still alive and maybe better than ever.
