Stone Sour will release their covers EP Meanwhile in Burbank, on iTunes April 28. The record features a handful of songs that the band mastered over dates on their last North American tour. Recorded live at Room 237 in Burbank, California, the EP was initially made available on vinyl exclusively at select record stores on April 18.
The heavy rockers started working on the album February 2014. Guitarist Josh Rand stated, “Back in February of 2014 while Stone Sour was touring, Corey approached me about Stone Sour doing a cover of the Metal Church song "The Dark" for the movie Fear Clinic. I thought it would be cool not only to record "The Dark", but the five cover songs that we had played on that tour. The idea was not to shy away from a song because it was popular or pick a band that most people might not have heard, but to pick ones that truly meant something to one of us at some point in our life.”
"The thing I love about playing covers is that a) it's a chance to walk in the footsteps of your heroes," said Corey Taylor of the EP. "It's a chance to have fun. There's a certain amount of relaxation that comes when you don't have to worry about your song. This is someone else's song, you know. This is where you can relax and just remember why you're a music fan in the first place."
The record features cuts from Alice in Chains ("We Die Young"), Judas Priest ("Heading Out to the Highway"), KISS ("Love Gun"), Metallica ("Creeping Death"), and Black Sabbath ("Children of the Grave"). There will two more covers EPs after the first is released.
