Thé Lau, best known as lead singer of Dutch band The Scene, passed away in his home in Amsterdam on Tuesday night. He had been terminally ill with cancer for some time. Thé Lau’s management announced the 62 year old singer’s death on Wednesday.
After Thé Lau announced that he was sick, he and his band booked a farewell tour through the Netherlands and Belgium. The band played at Pinkpop, in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, the Lotto Arena in Antwerp and the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
The last show of the farewell tour was in the Tivoli Vredenburg Music Center in Utrecht. King Willem-Alexander thanked the band for 35 years of music.
In addition to being a singer, the Amsterdammer was also a writer, musician and composer. He published several books, including the novels Hemelrijk and Juliette. A short story collection by Thé Lau, titled De grote vakantie, will appear this summer.
