Do we need to introduce Jimi Jamison & Jim Peterik? Okay, maybe the young readers might need it. I'll give you a short one: Jimi Jamison is the ex-vocalist of the American melodic rock band Survivor. He is the voice of classic 80's rock hits like "Burning Heart", "I Can't Hold Back", "The Search Is Over" and "High On You". He also sang the 'Baywatch' theme song "I'm Always Here".
Jim Peterik is a founding member of Survivor and writer of many great songs. He co-wrote the anthem "Eye of the Tiger," which is the theme song from the motion picture 'Rocky III'. He also wrote the tracks on “Crossroad Moment”, Jimi Jamison's 2nd solo album released in 2008. An album filled with excellent AOR/Melodic Rock tunes which brings you back to the days that Survivor was very popular.
What we have here with “Extra Moments” – on Andrew McNeice’s brand-new MelodicRockRecords label – is more of the same. More songs than the 14 (!) that appeared on “Crossroads Moment” were written by Jim Peterik at the time, but rejected by Frontiers Records. McNeice knew of these ‘rough cut gems’ and asked Jim & Jimi if it was possible to release them. The two gentlemen were more than pleased with the offer and so, here are 11 extra tracks, some as rough mixes, some as raw demos and yes … there are some ‘finals’ as well. Says Jim Peterik: “You will hear the process that makes an album great and the pieces that are sometimes left temporarily on the cutting room floor.”
The album starts in a wonderful way with the scorcher “Dream Higher”, which was co-written by Peterik, Jamison and (Kelly) Keagy in 2009. From the same year is “Chiseled In Stone”, which comes in two versions: a finished one with vocals from Jamison and a demo version with vocals from Peterik.
"Heart of a Woman" is a passionate sung ballad, while “Cry Of The Wild Heart”, written in 1984, was one of Jamison’s Survivor audition songs and it’s another great tune.
Other nice tunes are “Life #9” (co-written by Peterik and Denander in 2009) and “Lifeforce”, which Peterik describes “as a mission statement of his whole life”.
The four tracks that come back at the end of the disc are demo versions and sung by Jim Peterik.
This is the first release on McNeice’s MelodicRockRecords label. It must be a dream come true to start your own label and to have - on your first release - such talented musicians. Even if these tracks are only "leftovers". With songs written by Peterik and sung by Jamison you know they are from high quality. A must-have for Survivor fans...
