REVIEWER: RAYMOND "EVERYBODY LOVES RAY" COONEN
TNT was formed in Norway back in 1982. Directly making some changes in the line up after the first album. The only stable factor though the years was singer Tony Harnell, gifted guitar player Ronni Le Tekro and drummer Morten Dahl. Throughout the eighties the band released some melodic rock classic albums like Knights of The New Thunder, Tell No Tales and Intuition.
In the early nineties the band broke up. In 1996 TNT returned to the scene with… how should I say it… some weak albums. After giving TNT a really new start in 2003 long time member Tony Harnell quit the band in 2006. He was replaced by Tony Mills. Releasing The New Territory in 2007 follow up with Atlantis in 2008.
With the release of A Farewell To Arms, their third album in this current line-up, TNT returns to their roots. The music is more hard edged than on the last few albums and the truth is you’ll have to go all the way back to 1984’s Knight Of New Thunder to find in this heavy mood. When you listen to the opener 'Engine' you know what I mean. This heavy vibe continues out through the entire album… in one big rush A Farewell To Arms pass you by with melodic hard rock tunes like 'Ship In The Night', 'Don’t Misunderstand Me' and 'Someone Else'. These songs are blended with real hard rocking songs with a metal edge like 'Refugee', 'Take It Like A Man – Woman', 'Come' and 'Barracuda' (don’t worry, not a Heart cover…).
The only moments TNT takes their foot off the pedal is for the acoustic instrumental 'A Signature On A Demon’s Self Portrait' (it took me longer to write the title than that the song lasts) and the ballad 'God Natt – Marie', the last studio track on the album. As a bonus TNT gave us a live version of 'Harley Davidson', a song that has been previously released on the greatest hits Big Bang Collection.
